Sunday's instalment of Fox News was halted as national correspondent Bryan Llenas issued a major update following a chilling shooting at a church in Michigan. He revealed: "We're learning more about the federal response to this active shooting scene in Grand Blanc, Michigan."

During the breaking news, the broadcaster also read out attorney general Pam Bondi's statement, which described the incident as "horrific" and assured: "All FBI and ATF agents are en route." She added: "Violence at a place of worship is heartbreaking and chilling. Please join me in praying for the victims of this terrible tragedy."

Llenas declared it was "no longer active" and reported that there were "six to eight victims - police though, have not given a specific number, only that there are multiple victims".

Highlighting the footage from the scene, he added: "You can see that there was a fire started, with sources telling Fox News that this fire was started by the shooters."

The reporter continued: "You have a situation here where first responders were are dealing with putting out that fire while also responding and trying to save as many victims as they can.

"We've seen police bringing out victims on stretchers - we don't know how many. Only that people have been making their way out of that church.

"The police, they are in Grand Blanc saying that again, that the shooter is down, there is no current threat to the public."

Bryan added: "We now have the FBI, the ATF and the federal government there helping local police, and we expect a press conference ... with more information about as there were families, obviously multiple generations of people inside the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as a shooter opened fire, wreaking havoc and reportedly starting that fire."

According to reports, the suspect, who remains unnamed, has been identified as a 40-year-old male and was shot dead by the police.

Officers said the nine injured suffered gunshot wounds and are in stable condition in the hospital.

Investigators have said they are looking for a motive and are searching the man's property and phone records.

President Donald Trump addressed the shooting and wrote: "The suspect is dead, but there is still a lot to learn."

The US leader alleged: "This appears to be yet another targeted attack on Christians in the United States of America."

In a separate statement, Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer said: "Violence anywhere, especially in a place of worship, is unacceptable." She added that she was monitoring the situation.
