Fox News was interrupted with a breaking news alert, whereby President Trump said that "with a high degree of certainty" that authorities have Charlie Kirk's assassin in custody. Kirk was a right-wing American conservative political activist who was killed during an event at Utah Valley University this week. A manhunt has been underway for the shooter as authorities in Utah renewed calls for public help in finding Kirk's assassin.
Speaking on Fox, Trump said: "Essentially, someone very close to him turned him in. I'd rather not say right now. Maybe sometime later. When you look at it, somebody who was close to him said, 'Hm, that's him.' And essentially went to the father and the US Marshall, and they were a person of faith. The father convinced the son, 'This is it.'"
Law enforcement has not yet named the assassin behind Kirk's murder. On Fox News, Trump added: "Well, I hope - he's going to be found guilty, I would imagine - and I hope he gets the death penalty.
"What he did, Charlie Kirk, he was the finest person that, he didn't deserve this. He worked so hard and so well, everybody liked him."
"In Utah, they have the death penalty, and you have a very good governor there," Trump continued. "The governor, I've got to know him, the governor is very intent on the death penalty in this case."
