Transport for London (TfL) continues to roll out 4G and 5G mobile coverage across London's underground network, allowing more passengers to enjoy mobile service while travelling on the tube.
Mobile coverage on the Tube was initially trialled in March 2020 on sections of the Jubilee line, followed by a full rollout in December 2022. While some areas faced delays, today, a range of areas on the Underground network and the Elizabeth line already have access to mobile data, and there is more to come.
According to information released by TfL in response to a Freedom of Information request submitted by a transport website, IanVisits, passengers will gain mobile connections at 10 more stations by the end of 2025.
TfL also confirmed that the expansion will continue and more stations will be connected by June 2026, My London reports. All four of the UK's main mobile network operators, EE, Vodafone, Three UK, and Virgin Media O2, are working in collaboration with TfL to deliver the programme. Once completed, passengers using London's underground network will be able to make calls, send messages, and use the internet.
Phones should automatically search for and connect to the mobile signal as they would when above ground. If your station does not yet have a mobile connection, you can connect to public Wi-Fi, which is available at all Tube stations, most London Overground stations, all Elizabeth line stations under central London, and Victoria Coach Station.
To enable Wi-Fi on your device, you will need to connect to the service provided by your mobile network or The Cloud when using the London Overground.
Whilst staying connected whilst travelling via the tube network, TfL has reminded people of one thing they should do as they enjoy the service underground, and that is to use headphones.
