The density and quality of hair often changes as we age, and shedding a certain amount of hair day-to-day is normal. For women, menopause is one of the most common turning points for hair, including hair loss.

Amazon shoppers have found a product they have rated highly, it has a 4.5 star average out of over 2,000 reviews of which 74% are five-star. Amazon also says that in the last month, 2,000 people bought the Plantur 39 Phyto-Caffeine Tonic, which costs £10.99.

This 200ml product is for 'hair over forty' and the brand says it has been created for women over the age of 40 to give hair a daily dose of caffeine to support natural hair growth. The brand says years of research have resulted in proven scientific evidence to show the effectiveness of Plantur 39 products for hair care, as it activates hair roots, helping to reduce menopausal hairloss.

The brand says Phyto-Caffeine protects the hair roots from weakened growth, and once it is applied, this product penetrates the hair follicle forming "an active ingredient depot that provides protection for up to 24 hours". They advise using the tonic in the morning and it can be left in, and will provide between forty to fifty applications. For best results, they say to use it alongside Plantur 39 Shampoos and Conditioner.

Other options for beauty fans include the Pantene Hair Biology Menopause Shampoo For Thinning Hair from Boots which is £8 for 250ml. This menopause shampoo is for daily use and moisturises hair and soothes the scalp. It also has Pro-V, vitamin B3 and white tea to help with thinning hair.

Elsewhere Superdrug has the Charles Worthington Menoplex Menopause Volumising Shampoo for £9.99. The brand claims this shampoo has been formulated with a specialist thickening polymer, to add density and volume to hair.

With nearly 2,300 reviews on Amazon, one shopper dubbed the Plantur 39 product 'great for post menopause hair' saying: "Have been using this product for about a year now along with the shampoo and conditioner. Can honestly say it works. Even my hairdresser has told me to carry on using as hair is definitely thicker and less hair loss when I brush my hair." Another buyer said: "It really does help with hair loss."

A third customer said: "The product is outstanding and works after the second wash. Great results!"

Another person said: "Seems to help stop the shedding. Have not used it long enough to see if it helps with hair growth. It does not weigh the hair down or make it sticky."

But one person shared a concern over price, saying: "I'm struggling with menopausal hair thinning & I think this has helped. It is expensive though."
