On IMDb's Top 50 Crime Drama ranking, Task is currently sitting in the number one spot. Good HouseKeeping has also dubbed the series as the "best crime drama of the year".

On Rotten Tomatoes, Task has an impressive 95% rating from the critics. With their consensus stating: "Mark Ruffalo and Tom Pelphrey are superb in Task, a culturally-specific crime story that's unrelentingly bleak but equally riveting."

One critic said: "That's the brilliance of Task. It doesn't just blur the line between right and wrong, it erases it altogether. Every choice feels both indefensible and inevitable, forcing us to sit in the same uneasy tension as its characters."

Another critic wrote: "I ultimately found the show incredibly rewarding because I thought it was going to be one thing. ...But...what I found was something that was a lot shaggier and more rumpled and character study-ish."

"You've seen this kind of show before, probably many times - but Task's compelling characters, patient writing and undercurrent of emotion help it stand out from the crowd," added a third.

Fans of the show have described being "hooked", with one adding "I'm always excited for the next episode and watch it at least twice as I wait for the next one".

Another fan said: "Excellent characters and excellent writing so far. It is not an action show, but a very good drama. I am hooked."

A third viewer added: "Absolutely love this show. It's 4 for 4 on episodes thus far, and only seems to be getting better! Can't wait to watch the rest of the season!"

Task is available to stream on NOW TV.
