A woman has been found dead on the streets of a popular UK seaside town, with locals reporting that she was discovered by passers-by. An 18-year-old man is currently being held on suspicion of murder after the woman's body was discovered in the Morfa area of Prestatyn, North Wales, just before 8.40am yesterday. The woman has not yet been formally identified.
North Wales Police are still at the scene today, and have confirmed that additional officers will be deployed in the area this weekend to provide support to the local community. Police are not "actively looking" for anyone else in relation to the investigation, they added.
Superintendent Lee Boycott of North Wales Police said: "I can confirm that we are not actively looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and I would like to reassure the community that there is no evidence to suggest any wider risk to the public.
"Extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the woman's death, and we are continuing to ask people to avoid the area.
"Increased patrols will remain in place today and throughout the weekend to ensure our communities feel safe and reassured following this incident.
"I would also ask that people do not speculate about the incident online and report any concerns or information to officers at the earliest opportunity."
Police closed off Dawson Drive and Coniston Drive, and urged people to avoid the area. It's not yet known how or if the two locations are linked.
A post mortem examination is now set to be conducted.
Police added: "We will provide further information in due course. We ask that anyone with concerns, or information that could assist with our investigations, to approach our officers in the community. You can also contact us via the website or by calling us on 101."
