Four teenagers have been arrested after a boy, 16, was stabbed in a late night mass brawl in a popular UK seaside resort. Police were called shortly after midnight Friday, September 26, to reports of a mass brawl in Portsmouth.
The "altercation involving a large group of people" in Stubbington Avenue, North End involved a boy being stabbed in the midst of the fight. Images from the scene show a police cordon in place with a large emergency presence. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary say the 16-year-old "sustained some suspected stab wounds to his arm", however these are not believed to be life-threatening. Four teenagers were all arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and remain in custody.
Police are now probing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this late night altercation.
A force spokesperson said: "A 16-year-old boy sustained some suspected stab wounds to his arm, however these are not life-threatening. Enquiries remain ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this incident, and police have arrested four people.
"A 17-year-old boy, two 16-year-old boys, and a 15-year-old boy have all been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. They remain in custody at this time."
Reassuring locals Inspector Janine Sanger said this incident is being "investigated thoroughly" with officers promptly arresting four people.
Inspector Sanger said: "We know that any form of violence, but particularly involving young people, is of concern to the community.
"We want you to be reassured that this is being investigated thoroughly to establish the full facts, and officers promptly arrested four people after this assault was reported.
