England's Women's Rugby team triumphed at the World Cup, defeating Canada 33-13 in a gripping final on Saturday afternoon and sparking jubilant scenes at Twickenham.

Under John Mitchell's leadership, his side had previously overcome USA, Samoa, and Australia in the group stages, before a resounding victory over Scotland in the quarter-finals and a narrow win against France in the semis.

Facing Canada, who had an impressive run themselves, England's Red Roses dominated the match, securing a comfortable victory with tries from Ellie Kildunne, Amy Cokayne, Alex Matthews (2), and Abbie Ward as head coach Mitchell's strategic acumen shone through.

At the final whistle, emotions ran high among the English players, with tears and embraces marking their monumental achievement as world champions.

Zoe Aldcroft, the captain, hoisted the trophy aloft to the roar of over 80,000 spectators, with the entire squad and support staff joining in the celebrations of this historic World Cup win.

The victorious Red Roses then embarked on a lap of honour, acknowledging the unwavering support of the crowd, with some players gesturing towards their families and friends in the stands.

Post-match, player of the match Sadia Kabeya was visibly moved as she expressed her feelings to BBC Sport: "It's amazing! Thank you to everyone who came out here today.

"It's a pinch me moment. It's been years and years in the making, I am so happy we could pull it off. All props to Canada they are a great side and they put up a great fight here today."

England's final try scorer Ward expressed her overwhelming emotions: "Honestly as soon as the whistle went I just burst into tears. Its' truly been such a special day. A sold-out crowd at Twickenham. It was electric, in front of friends, family, it's amazing."

She also reflected on the team's journey and mindset, adding: "The last final loss, that was then. This is a new team, this is a new chapter of women's rugby. It wasn't about righting wrongs. This is our little moment today. It's about this, this team has been special, what we've done has been special. The support, the crowd, the friends and family involved, it's been magical."

Kildunne, another try scorer, spoke about the team's confidence and camaraderie, saying: "No pressure, we thrive in this. We have big players. People care, look at this one (Meg Jones) smashing them week in week out. Keep the cowboy hats coming! We'll be drinking, dancing and celebrating as a group."

These comments give us a glimpse into the jubilant mood within England's camp post-World Cup victory, with further celebrations planned at Battersea Power Station in London, on Sunday at 2pm.
