A woman has been praised after sharing her energy-saving hack that she claims helped to reduce her heating bill.

Ofgem has recently confirmed the energy price cap will rise by 2.03% from October 1, taking the average annual bill to £1,755. That represents a year-on-year increase of 2.21% and means costs will be £713 a year higher than in winter 2020/21, which was before the energy crisis triggered by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

While people are already worried about the cost of their energy bills, as several households already struggled with paying their heating bills last year, some nifty Brits have taken to social media to share their energy saving tips and tricks that can help you save hundreds.

One of these were TikTok user '@crafternoons', who shared adding one thing to her home helped her save money on her energy bills.

"Did you see energy prices are going up again? Don't worry, I have an interior design hack that will save you money," she claimed at the start of her video.

She went on to say that since the colder autumn and winters months are coming closer, she started thinking about how her hallway tiles had gotten freezing cold due to the draft from the front door.

While she said she used a draft excluder on the front door, this hadn't worked and she'd been forced to invest in a pair of slippers to be able to walk on the floor.

"When I'm paying precious pounds for that electricity and gas, I don't wanna waste it," she said before revealing her solution.

So this year, she decided to be prepared as she revealed she secured an upgrade in the shape of thermal door curtains, which she said will help her keep the heat in and the cold out.

"Hung just above the door, so it can still open," she said. "And here's the key bit, puddled."

This will allow the curtain to always hang closely to the door and remove and risk of the cold draft getting into the rest of the house.

Thermal curtains include a thermal lining, which is what helps the cold wind and drafts from window and doors from coming in and work against your heating. While the woman in the video was seen hanging her curtain by the door, these curtains can also be hanged by windows in order to prevent drafting there too.

And in the hotter summer months, users have also reported the curtains work just as well for keeping the hot temperatures out of your cooler home.

People soon took to the comment section to praise the creator for the clever idea, while also complimenting her on her choice of curtain.

"They're stunning," one person wrote, while another viewer said: "Ok I'm so pleased I saw this because I NEED one of these for my cold flat."

"This looks hard but makes sense," a third person said.
