Jamie Carragher 'blocked from Etihad' by Man City as reason revealed before Liverpool game

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher was reportedly denied entry to the away end at the Etihad Stadium for the clash between Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund. Carragher was at Anfield on Tuesday night to watch his former club beat Real Madrid 1-0 in the Champions League.

And 24 hours later, Carragher was in Manchester to cover City's clash with Dortmund in the fourth league phase match of the Champions League for CBS Sports. The 47-year-old was spotted alongside Dortmund fans walking towards the Etihad ahead of kick-off on Wednesday night.

This is not the first time that Carragher has socialised with fans of the Bundesliga club during a Champions League tie. The former Liverpool defender was at Signal Iduna Park's famous 'Yellow Wall' for Dortmund's semi-final clash against Paris Saint-Germain back in 2024, where he celebrated alongside supporters of the German club.

The Daily Mail have reported, though, that Carragher attempted to join Dortmund fans in the away end at the Etihad on Wednesday evening. However, it is claimed Carragher was denied entry to the stadium by both UEFA and City, with several reasons cited.

Both City and UEFA opted not to comment, with the report suggesting UEFA believed Carragher's press credentials were not sufficient enough to enter the away end.

City were also said to be cautious about allowing a former Liverpool player in the away end to support Dortmund.

City went on to win the game 4-1 with Phil Foden (two), Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki on the score sheet, with a crunch Premier League clash against title rivals Liverpool to come on Sunday.

Carragher was later seen on the touchline alongside fellow CBS Sports pundit Peter Schmeichel, where he spoke about his journey to the Etihad alongside Dortmund's travelling away support.

"It's been fantastic, we had a great walk in from Manchester city centre to the ground," Carragher told CBS Sports before kick-off on Wednesday night. "They're enjoying themselves, they're looking forward to the game and they're a little bit worried about Erling Haaland.

"But they've got their own man up front in (Serhou) Guirassy, who we think might be able to cause a problem or two. They're in full flight, and hopefully by the end of the game they're going to really enjoy themselves, and I might join them."
