Hollywood star Nicole Kidman and country music singer Keith Urban have reportedly separated after almost two decades together, PEOPLE has confirmed. The Oscar-winning actress, 58, and the Australian singer, 57, tied the knot in June 2006 and share two daughters - Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14. Sources close to the couple told PEOPLE the split has been devastating for Nicole, who reportedly fought hard to keep the marriage alive.
An insider told the outlet: "Nicole's sister (Antonia) has been a rock, and the entire Kidman family has come together to support one another. "She didn't want this," the source added. "She has been fighting to save the marriage."
Reports first surfaced via TMZ, which revealed the pair had been living apart since the beginning of the summer. According to the outlet, Keith has moved into his own residence in Nashville, away from the family home.
One source said bluntly: "Keith has acquired his own residence in Nashville and has moved out of their family home." Nicole is said to be the one caring for the couple's teenage daughters as she tries to keep family life stable.
The insider added: "She's been holding the family together through this difficult time since Keith has been gone." The news has shocked fans who viewed the pair as one of showbiz's strongest couples.
Nicole and Keith often spoke publicly about their bond, with the actress describing her husband earlier this year as "my love, my deep, deep love."
She told PEOPLE in April: "I'm so lucky that I have Keith, who's just my love, my deep, deep love. That gives me the ability to go and do whatever I have to do because I know where I can come back to."
In June, Nicole marked their 18th wedding anniversary by posting a romantic snap on Instagram, writing: "Happy Anniversary Baby @KeithUrban." Just weeks later, she shared "summer memories" online with her daughters and extended family, while Keith was away on tour.
Nicole recently wrapped filming Practical Magic 2 in London, while Keith is currently performing across the United States. His next stop is Hershey, Pennsylvania, on October 2. As for whether divorce is on the horizon, those close to the couple insist it is still "to be determined."
Fans reacted in shock to the reports on social media. One wrote: "Wow. I hope this is not true! They seemed like the perfect couple!" Another added: "I really hope they can find their way back to each other."
A third fumed: "He must be insane!!! It would be a cold day in hell before I would leave Nicole Kidman!" Express.co.uk has reached out to Nicole Kidman and Karl Urban's representatives for a comment.
