Kensington Palace has broken its silence on claims that Prince William threatened to take Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie's titles away from them if their father did not vacate Royal Lodge. It was claimed this week by journalist Emily Maitlis that The Prince of Wales gave his cousins an ultimatum to try and encourage them to get their father Prince Andrew to leave his 30-room royal home.
Maitlis claimed on her News Agents podcast that there had been a meeting between Prince William and the princesses. In the meeting, Maitlis alleged that William told Eugenie, 35, and Beatrice, 37, that their titles of princess would be re-examined if they did not encourage their father to leave his Crown Estate mansion. However, Kensington Palace has now said that no meeting took place.
The Mirror reported that the Palace said that William, 43, would also not have the ability to take away his cousin's princess titles as he is not the monarch.
This story is the latest in the ongoing Royal Lodge saga, with calls for Andrew, 65, to leave his 30-bedroom mansion intensifying as a result of his previous associations with the late convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
While Andrew has already dropped the use of his royal titles, despite denying the accusations against him, this has not been enough to satisfy the public, with many seemingly not wanting the King's brother to continue residing in the 30-room royal home, according to a YouGov poll.
Although Andrew has a lease on Royal Lodge until 2078, it is believed he is open to the idea of leaving and moving to a smaller royal home.
It has been reported that the prince has been eyeing up Frogmore Cottage as a potential abode, while his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson - who has been living with him for years - reportedly is setting her sights on Adelaide Cottage.
Reports the prince has demanded two homes have further resulted in public discontent towards the divorced couple.
Buckingham Palace has yet to confirm what is happening with Royal Lodge and where the prince will move to.
