With the evenings growing ever darker and chilly temperatures becoming more frequent, most people will have already turned their heating on. With the coldest months ahead of us, it's important to make sure radiators are in good shape and ready for the task ahead.
If your radiator takes an age to warm up or isn't as hot as it should be, you might not need to ring up the plumber just yet, as it could simply require a thorough clean. Accumulated dirt and debris can obstruct heat, putting pressure on the radiator. This can lead to increased electricity bills, as more energy is needed to heat your room.
Fortunately, there's a straightforward way to clean your radiators using a single common household item.
Taking to TikTok, @cleanwithgeorgiia revealed seven methods she uses to keep her home dust-free, reports the Express.
Her initial advice was to utilise a hair dryer to "blow out" dust from your radiator.
She also offered tips for preventing dust on your walls, headboards and surfaces, using everyday cleaning essentials such as a lint roller and damp duster.
Georgia isn't the only cleaning aficionado to endorse the use of a hair dryer for cleaning your radiators.
Cleaning guru Lynsey Crombie, also known as the Queen of Clean, recommends this technique as well.
In a previous Facebook post, she stated: "Use your hair dryer to blow out trapped dust from those hard-to-reach spots."
Dust, pet hair and cobwebs can easily accumulate in radiators, with a hair dryer able to access nooks you probably wouldn't be able to reach using a vacuum or cloth.
To begin, switch off your radiator and lay a towel down underneath. Ensure you have your vacuum ready to gather the dust as it is blown out from the radiator.
Keep your hair dryer on the cool air and high airflow setting, aim it at the radiator's fins, panels or vents.
Steer clear of using the hot air setting as this could potentially damage the radiator's components.
Repeat this procedure until your radiator is free of all dirt and debris. Lastly, use a soft brush to clean out any dust on the exterior of the radiator.
