Meghan Markle has been slammed as "hard to understand" for suggesting that she and Prince Harry needed a period of "healing" after their exit from the Royal Family. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex bowed out of the Firm as working royals in early 2020 and, according to Meghan, they had "no plan" as they relocated to California in a bid to "heal" after the rift from Harry's immediate family.
Meghan made the comments while speaking to Alyson Shontell, the editor-in-chief of Fortune, at the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit in Washington DC this week. Reflecting on her "dig at the Royal Family" on an episode of the Daily Mail's podcast, royal broadcaster Richard Eden said: "It's just hard to understand this couple at all. On the one hand, they need healing after being in Britain. On the other hand, they appear to be desperate to come back to Britain." Mr Eden's remarks came after he claimed there is a "plot" allegedly backed by some senior politicians and courtiers to help the Sussexes warm up their relationship with Brits and other royals in order for them to be able to return to the UK.
