Sonay Kartal and Cameron Norrie given major reality check ahead of Wimbledon clashes

Dan Evans has warned Sonay Kartal and Cameron Norrie that they will face tougher challenges than anybody is expecting this afternoon. The last two remaining Brits in the Wimbledon singles draws will play their fourth-round matches today.

It is widely conceived that the pair have favourable draws and both should progress to the quarter-finals. But Evans has warned that Kartal cannot underestimate her opponent Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who reached the quarter-finals here herself in 2016.

The Russian world No.54 has also reached the French Open final, four Australian Open quarters and the quarters at the US Open.

"Looking ahead to Sunday, I was pretty bullish about Sonay and Cam's chances in my last column before the tournament and they have backed me up," Evans, who was knocked out by Novak Djokovic in round two, wrote in the Mail.

"For Sonay, she probably feels like she should be a bit more... not respected, but more spoken about. People will probably think Sunday is a decent draw but I actually think it's very hard. Pavlyuchenkova's been playing good on the grass and is a former Grand Slam finalist.

"It's a tough match but Sonay has done great so far. It's a really special relationship she has with her coach Ben Reeves."

Kartal is set to make her Centre Court debut and will get her tie underway at 1.30pm. Meanwhile, Norrie has been scheduled on his favourite Court 1, where he takes on Nicolas Jarry.

"There's never any worry with Cam. His draw certainly opened up but he has to take advantage of it and that's what he's made a career out of: beating the players he should.

"He plays Jarry next, I would say that's a 50/50 match, maybe Cam just about favourite," Evans added.

Norrie could set up a potential quarter-final with Carlos Alcaraz, if the defending champion sees off Andrey Rublev in the final match on Centre Court.
