BBC's Strictly Come Dancing was thrown into chaos during its first-ever live show of series 23, just moments after EastEnders star Balvinder Sopal took to the stage with her professional partner, newcomer Julian Caillon. The pair danced the Samba to (Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty by KC & The Sunshine Band and made their way to the balcony, where they received their scores with host Claudia Winkleman.

However, with a disappointing total of 17, Claudia reassured the dancers: "Well done, it's week one. There is no vote tonight. Next week, all of our couples perform again, and the judges' scores will be combined." She added: "Still to come, Kaz and Carlos will be closing the show." Claudia then attempted to hand it over to her co-host and announced, "Tess!" However, there was an awkward silence as she backtracked: "No, not yet. It's not time yet, there's no rush."

In a split decision, Claudia turned back to Balvinder, and as the dancers laughed, she said: "Uh, come here. Tell me more about how your week was."

After an outburst of laughter, the host joked, "Everything's fine. I just want you to relax." Meanwhile, the actress warned about products on her skin: "Don't get too close; you might get a bit brown. I've got some arm stuff." Claudia interjected, "No, this is fine."

However, before they could get into their quick conversation, the presenter announced, "Oh, now it's time. " Turning to Balvinder, she quipped, "But I enjoyed this. We should do this again." Before adding: "Cool, Tess."

As the cameras went to her co-host on the dancefloor, she joked: "Thank you, better late than never." Before introducing La Voix and pro Aljaz Skorjanec.
