The Chase fans were left up in arms after one player begged their teammate to take the low offer after a devastating loss. During Wednesday's visit (September 17) to the ITV studio, host Bradley Walsh welcomed four new hopefuls onto the teatime show. He introduced Shelia, Alex, Robbie, and Amanda to the viewers at home before they put their general knowledge to the test.
This week, the quartet went up against Shaun 'The Dark Destroyer' Wallace, who certainly brought his A-game to the table. First up to the podium was Shelia, who earned a respectable £2,000 in the cash-builder round. But the retired P.E teacher struggled to hold on to her winnings in the tense head-to-head round against the pro quizzer and was given the boot.
Next to take on the Mastermind champion was Alex, who doubled his former teammates' score in the cash-builder round. Entering the one-on-one round with £4,000 in his pocket, the digital marketer also fell on his sword during the nail-biting round.
Hoping to break the cycle was Robbie, a HR manager from Hampshire. Like Alex, he also earned £4,000 in the cash-builder round. But things took an unexpected turn when he turned around to confer with his last teammate about which amount to play for in the head-to-head round.
At this point, Amanda "begged" the player to take the low offer of £1,000 in the one-on-one round after losing two of her teammates the same way. She said: "Robbie, you are capable of the top, but please go low."
As Brad chuckled in disbelief, she insisted: "I know [it sounds mean] but please, I need you back here, so any money is better than no money. So please, I'm begging." It didn't take long before viewers flooded to X - formerly known as Twitter - to share their frustrations online.

One user simply asked: "Seriously?" as another screamed: "Nooooooo!" while a third jabbed: "Chick chick chick chicken. Hope to god you flipping lose." A fourth fumed: "This is an absolute joke now! Why does the low offer even exist in the first place? The Chase has gone down the toilet."
After listening to her thoughts, Robbie decided to risk it all and played for his winnings in the gripping round. Thankfully, Robbie managed to get through by the skin of his teeth after two near-misses in the gruelling one-on-one round. Amanda was the final player to take on the Chaser, who scored the highest figure in the cash-builder round: an impressive £6,000.
Unlike her teammates, Amanda managed to sail through to the final chase without any issues, meaning the pair went through to the final round armed with £10,000. After selecting set B, Amanda and Robbie successfully answered 11 questions in the final chase, but it was no match for The Dark Destroyer, who caught them out with 35 seconds remaining.
The Chase airs on weekdays from 5pm on ITV1 or catch up on ITVX.
