European destinations continue to be firm favourites among British holidaymakers, providing delightful weather while staying conveniently near to the UK. This leads to considerably shorter flights than more remote, exotic destinations, and whilst classic hotspots like Majorca, Ibiza, Paris and Crete in Greece keep drawing plenty of visitors, numerous hidden gems exist that few tourists have uncovered.

The nation that consistently holds its spot as the premier choice for British travellers is Spain, with countless tourists selecting it for summer getaways due to the wealth of sunshine and higher temperatures during this time compared to the UK. The vast array of beaches, lifestyle, affordable costs and cultural attractions represent other factors that draw large numbers of Brits to Spain each year. A UK travel blogger called Jess has gathered thousands of followers on TikTok, where she shares travel tips and itineraries.

In a recent video on the platform, she revealed what she considers could be the "most unique town in Spain", giving viewers a glimpse of Setenil de las Bodegas in southern Spain.

The town is famous for its charming whitewashed homes built into the surrounding cliffs. Captioning her TikTok video, Jess wrote: "The people in this town literally live under a rock."

It's located in the province of Cadiz in Andalusia and in the clip, Jess can be spotted wandering through the slender alleyways flanked by whitewashed structures decorated with flora cascading from dark-hued balconies and eateries with umbrellas, seating and tables placed outdoors beneath the massive boulder.

The travel enthusiast offered additional information in her post, saying: "Is this the most unique town in Spain?".

"This is Setenil de las Bodegas, an incredible village literally built into the cliff side.

"The whitewashed houses are built beneath huge rock overhangs, and some of them are even available to stay in overnight. Or, you can just visit and enjoy lunch beneath the rocks."

The enormous stone towers above the Rio Guadalporcun river and Setenil de las Bodegas accommodates a small population of just over 2,600 inhabitants.

It boasts a captivating history with evidence of human settlement extending back to the 12th century.

Calle Cuevas del Sol, known as Sun Caves Street, showcases pubs and dining establishments built into the clifftop with generous seating arranged under the stone overhang.

There's also Calle Cuevas de la Sombra, a narrower thoroughfare with diminished illumination where the rocky ledge entirely protects the buildings.

Beyond the unique homes and structures carved into or beneath the rock face, a plethora of tourist attractions await visitors.

These include the historic 12th-century Nazari Castle, which played a crucial role in the town's heritage, and various viewpoints offering panoramic views.

These include Mirador del Carmen, although be prepared for a steep climb of nearly 100 steps, Mirador del Lizon, and Calle Ventosilla Alta.

Setenil de las Bodegas is accessible from Malaga, with the journey taking roughly one hour and 15 minutes by car.

Jess described the destination as an "absolute must visit if you're planning a trip to Spain."

Her TikTok video has garnered responses from viewers who were mesmerised.

One exclaimed: "This is how you live with nature!" while others commented "loved it here" and "beautiful."
