A pretty little market town in the UK that blends Cotswold charm with a lively, modern edge is also home to the best pub in the country. Charlbury is a charming market town tucked into the Evenlode Valley in West Oxfordshire, England.

The National Pubs & Bars awards gave The Bull in Charlbury, Oxfordshire the top spot in its rundown. According to the judges, the bar has "cemented its reputation as a leading countryside pub". It was commended for its blending of "quintessential qualities with the finesse and flawless service of a contemporary operation", as well as its "stripped-back design, brilliant front-of-house team and exceptional food".

One person who visited the popular pub wrote on TripAdvisor forum: "It is absolutely top class. Another excellent experience for us. The food was delicious and very good.

"We were given bubbles and dessert for my birthday which was much appreciated. We had a superb waitress - didn't get her name, but she said her parents were Bosnian and Palestinian so there can't be many like that in West Oxfordshire.

"She was charming, friendly and very professional, really on everything. Other staff were first class as well. This is a seriously good place and widely recognised as such. The attractive small town is busy and parking can be a bit awkward, you may have to walk a few minutes. Can't wait to visit again."

Another customer said: "We had a great lunch at the Bull. Ed, who is in front of the house, made us most welcome. The food was superb and I recommend the famous Bull pie."

A third user wrote: "What a fantastic experience. Cozy, great interior, and most importantly, fantastic food and great service. We were a family of 5 and everybody found something they loved. I highly recommend it."
