Visitors to one of the biggest cities in the world should avoid one easy mistake that will get them dirty looks, an experienced traveller has claimed. Elena Herraiz is a Spanish travel content creator who shares videos of her adventures alongside Víctor Gata.
The travel couple have been all over the world, posting pictures from all manner of popular travel destinations, including the Italian capital Rome, the pyramids of Egypt, and Japan. The pair also visited New York City, on the east coast of the US, and Elena shared a tip for staying on the right side of waiters.

In a video on TikTok, where the pair have 465.5K followers, she said in America it's "frowned upon not to leave at least 15% or 20% of the total bill. In fact, a large part of waiters' salaries depends on it".
"You can leave it in cash or by card, but it's best to include it in your budget," the travel lover says.
However, she notes that you don't have to give the tip for a takeaway, which the pair thinks would be "excessive".
Tipping at this level is common across the US, and you might get an indignant look from your server if you forget.

In the UK, 10% is considered a standard tip, though you may opt for more if the service was particularly good.
New York City is one of the one of the most prized travel destinations in the world.
According to the mayor's office, 65 million visitors came to the metropolis last year, marking the second-highest figure in city history.
It's the 13th largest city on earth in terms of urban area population (21,800,000) according to Brittania.
