Cleaning guru Lynsey Crombie has shared a step you should never miss when air drying your towels. Instead of hanging them straight up to dry, you should take a few extra seconds to try her techique.

In an informative TikTok video, the housework whiz told her 153,000 followers: "Ever wonder why I shake my towels when hanging them to dry indoors? Giving them a quick shake helps fluff up the fibres, which makes them dry faster and stay soft! Plus, it reduces any wrinkles, so they feel fresher and look nicer when they're dry. Try it next time - small habit, big difference!"

This Morning's cleaning expert is definitely onto something - as there is science behind the viral hack.

The more surface area exposed to air, the faster evaporation occurs. As well as this, fluffed-up fibres mean more air can circulate around and through the towel, enhancing drying by evaporation.

It also aids capillary action and evaporation rate, which can improve airflow to help your towels dry faster, softer, and with fewer wrinkles.

More ways to help your towels dry quickly and stay fluffy

1. Spread them out

Don't fold towels over the washing line or clothing racks. Hang them fully open and spread out so air can circulate on all sides.

As well as this, be sure not to overcrowd your drying rack with too many wet items.

2. Use a sunny spot with good circulation

Hang towels outdoors or by a window. Look for direct sunlight and where there's a breeze. Sunlight speeds evaporation and the breeze carries away humid air.

3. Wring out excess water

If towels are very wet, wring or squeeze out as much water as possible before hanging them up for best results.

Lynsey's informative video has garnered more than 350 likes since it was uploaded to TikTok - and many thanked her for the helpful advice.

One responder gushed: "Great tips." And another said: "Thank you for all your tips." Meanwhile, a third commenter swore by using the technique on a regular basis. They wrote: "Do the same with all my washing."
