When you are looking for a speaker to kickstart a party, accompany your road trips or simply fill your outdoor gatherings with high-energy sound, you need a speaker that lasts your energy. Sometimes a good speaker comes with a hefty price tag but domestic brand Ubon has launched SP-85 bluetooth speaker that – at a price of Rs 1,699 – brings 30W output, immersive audio and all things necessary for on-the-go fun. Let's dive into what makes the Ubon SP-85 stand out.

Design and portability

The first thing we noticed a minimalistic design with a robust build. Available in bold dual-colour options like Black with Orange controls or Black with Grey accents, it certainly looks the part of a modern party speaker. The sides have a designer rubbery design, giving it a premium feel that's often missing in budget-friendly alternatives, adding a touch of durability and sophistication.

But a party speaker isn't much fun if you can't easily take it with you. The Ubon SP-85 gets a carry strap that can be adjusted according to the need, making it convenient for transport. Whether you're slinging it over your shoulder for a picnic, carrying it to a friend's house, or simply moving it from one room to another, the belt makes it effortless.

On the top are the buttons for Play/Pause, Power On/Off and controls for volume and tracks. Connectivity is versatile and hassle-free. The speaker features Bluetooth v5.3 and pairing it with smartphone or other devices is quick and straightforward. Beyond Bluetooth, the SP-85 offers multi-input support, which is a huge plus. Users can play music directly from a USB drive, a TF card or AUX port.

Performance
Now, for the most crucial aspect of any speaker: how it sounds. The Ubon SP-85 boasts a 30W output, and it delivers. For its size, this speaker can get loud, making it genuinely suitable for filling a room or an outdoor space with music. The audio profile is geared towards a high-energy experience, with a focus on bass and clear vocals, which is exactly what you want for party tracks.

For example, we listened to some songs, including 295 by Sidhu Moose Wala, Tauba Tauba by Karan Aujla, Millionaire by Yo Yo Honey Singh, Sher Khul Gaye from Fighter and more. We found that the output is loud with clear vocals. Notably, the speaker itself it didn’t rumble but it threw a bass-y effect to keep the essence of party songs alive.

While it might not satisfy the audiophile looking for nuanced soundscapes, for its intended purpose—parties, road trips, and casual listening—it performs admirably. The sound remains relatively clear even at higher volumes (up to 80%), avoiding excessive distortion, which is a common pitfall for many portable speakers.

Battery
Nothing kills a party faster than a dead battery. Thankfully, the Ubon SP-85 is built for endurance. Equipped with a 4000mAh battery, it is claimed to offer a 20-hour playtime. During our review, the claims turn out to be somewhat true. Notably, the playtime depends on volume you play your music on. Higher volume, higher the power draw.
