NEW DELHI: AAP leader and former Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj on Tuesday took a sharp yet humorous dig at the BJP’s Rekha Gupta-led Delhi government over its artificial rain experiment aimed at tackling the city’s worsening air quality.
Posting a video on X titled "Even in the rain, there’s trickery," Bharadwaj mocked the initiative, writing, "No sign of artificial rain."
In the clip, Bharadwaj ridiculed the Delhi government for claiming credit for what he described as a failed experiment. He alleged that the city’s weather forecast had already predicted natural rainfall, yet the government rushed to project artificial rain as its own achievement.
“There’s no sign of rain anywhere -- the few clouds that were there, they’ve blown those away too. Even Lord Indra isn’t on their side,” he quipped. “They thought it might rain soon, so they decided to spice it up by creating artificial rain.”
Continuing his fire at BJP, he added, “The moment Lord Indra finally brings rain someday, they’ll steal credit for that too — Indra will make it rain, but the government will show it as their expense.”
Earlier, the Delhi government under BJP leader Rekha Gupta had announced a plan for cloud seeding , a method to trigger rainfall -- as part of its broader strategy to combat the capital’s severe air pollution during winter. Operations were carried out over Burari, North Karol Bagh, Bhojpur, Mayur Vihar, and Sadakpur, with humidity levels reported between 15–20%. Officials had expected light rainfall between 5 and 6 pm.
However, as of late evening, no significant rainfall had been recorded in the city, leaving the much-hyped experiment literally high and dry.
