NEW DELHI: A police officer allegedly slapped a shopkeeper in the middle of the road, causing him to collapse and lose consciousness, according to a social media post by the NGO NCMIndia Council For Men Affairs .
The shocking video was widely shared across multiple social media platforms, with many users condemning it as an example of police brutality. The original clip, shared by the men’s rights NGO, has garnered over 1 million views.
According to the video, SHO Pushpendra Bansiwal of Kota Police slapped the shopkeeper so hard that he instantly fainted. It is alleged that the SHO asked the shopkeeper to remove a bike parked in front of his shop in the Kaithunipol area of Kota, Rajasthan .
The shopkeeper reportedly told the SHO that it was not his bike and that it was locked, so he could not move it. After this exchange, the SHO allegedly lost his temper and, along with other policemen, brutally assaulted the shopkeeper.
Addressing the alleged police brutality, the NGO’s post called the officers “khaki goons” and questioned: “What else can we expect from these Khaki Goons?”
In the video, the man can be seen being forcefully dragged by his collar toward a police van as a crowd watches. The SHO slaps him and tries to push him into the van, but the man faints before he can be placed inside. Police are seen trying to revive him, but he remains unconscious.
The incident reportedly took place on May 29. The NGO questioned why no action had been taken against the officers so far.
Criticizing Rajasthan chief minister Bhajanlal Sharma , one user commented: “Can the honorable CM @BhajanlalBjp let us know which rule of law allows a policeman to slap someone for wrong parking? Is this really what police personnel are trained for—to slap someone so hard they fall unconscious?”
Another user said: “This policeman should be suspended! This is pure gundagardi and misuse of power and uniform!”
Meanwhile, the official handle of Kota City Police has assured that an investigation is underway.
