NBA Take-Two Media wants to bring together basketball and pop culture
The NBA 2K League has been a fan favorite since its launch. So having a rebooted version, with even more engaging content and players involvement, is just what anyone could have hoped for. The CEO of NBA Take-Two Media, Andrew Perlmutter, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter said:

"The video game sits at the intersection of basketball gaming and pop culture in a really powerful way now, now more than ever, and the concept of the 2K League is essentially to bring that to life by putting NBA players, celebrities, creators and regular fans in in an entertainment universe, a character-driven universe, where they’re in video programming that is playful and fun and brings out who they are authentically, with competitive 2K as the conduit to that."

Content creators will be the apex point of this new version of the beloved game, especially with YouTuber Jesser as its honorary commissioner. Jesser and his team and board of celebrity guests “will serve as the guiding force behind the league — working together to draft players, issue rulings and keep everyone on their toes.” That is, he will be participating as well as have the power to sabotage or at least derail other people taking part in it.

NBA 2K League - where competition meets culture
The new game has been described as “an innovative entertainment property where competition meets culture, bringing everyone from fans to NBA players and creators together to play, compete, and build community—no matter their ‘NBA 2K’ skill level." It's a completely new take on the old game, and aims to bring in an even wider audience. And as a bonus, fans will see Tyrese Haliburton as the Deputy Commissioner in the League.

The “main objective” for this re-launch, as described by Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick, “is to serve our consumers and to bring them great entertainment that is at the intersection of basketball, ‘NBA 2K’ and just general entertainment.” From November 16, fans can sign up for “Next Fan Up,” the new open ladder competition.
