Patrick Beverley revives old rumor, claims Carmelo Anthony allegedly declined Houston Rockets offer over Jeremy Lin

Send Push
New York Knicks’ Jeremy Lin once caused a sensation and started a phenomenon. The "Linsanity" phenomenon began when, he took the Knicks to a winning turnaround during the 2011-12 season, through an unexpected turn of events. Everybody seemed to be impressed by him. However, he reportedly had a rivalry with another NBA star, Carmelo Anthony.

Anthony was reportedly jealous of Lin. However, the two stars have always denied the rumors. Now, recently, the former NBA player and podcaster, Patrick Beverley, gave his opinion on the matter. He also revealed that Melo was reportedly supposed to join the Houston Rockets to create a Big 3 with Dwight Howard and James Harden. However, he reportedly didn't do it because he didn't want to work with Jeremy Lin.

Patrick Beverley sparks renewed debate over Carmelo Anthony and Jeremy Lin’s alleged tension

During his recent YouTube podcast episode, Patrick Beverley said:

“When Melo was trying to negotiate his free agency, he went to a whole bunch of teams and one of the teams he went to was the Houston Rockets because we were thinking about getting them, right? It was James Harden the white. We got a chance to get Melo. Yeah, right…”

He then added:

“I'm like damn so Melo gets there like yeah, I come here. I ain't playing with number seven though. That's hard Jeremy Lin…”

He further continued:

“He's racist. No, no, he's not right. You're before they had all the insanity sh*t. Let's say New York and they're trying to trade Melo. It was a time that people were talking about. Maybe we traded Melo and just gave the keys to Jeremy Lin, right? It was a time a lot of people in New York were saying that they couldn't get Melo….”

However, both Lin and Melo had refuted the claims of jealousy repeatedly. During a 2014 interview, which recently resurfaced, thinking back on his connection with Anthony, Lin said:

“I’ve never had any problems with him.. He’s never treated me bad at all one time that I’m aware of. I’ve always had relationship with him and since then, every time we played, we say hello.”

In 2012, he joined James Harden after joining the Houston Rockets. He stabilised a youthful backcourt there while averaging 13.4 points over two seasons. During the Los Angeles Lakers' slump, he was relocated from Houston to the Charlotte Hornets, Brooklyn Nets, Atlanta Hawks, and Toronto Raptors.

On the other hand, in an episode of his podcast, "7PM in Brooklyn," Anthony himself made a correction. He told co-host The Kid Mero and Baron Davis:

"People always talk about... nobody liked Linsanity... personally me, you get what I'm saying? They throw that out there.. But people don't know that, behind the scenes, we were very supportive of this."

It was just two careers developing in separate arcs. As a Knick, Anthony went on to lead the NBA in scoring in 2013, be named an All-Star seven times, and end his career with more than 28,000 points. On the other hand, despite never achieving the same level of recognition as Linsanity, Lin had a significant NBA career spanning almost ten years that made a lasting cultural impact.
