Thousands of supporters, family members, and political leaders gathered today at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, to honour conservative activist Charlie Kirk following his tragic death earlier this month.
The 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA was fatally shot on September 10 while interacting with students at Utah Valley University. Authorities charged 22-year-old Tyler Robinson with aggravated murder and related offences in connection with the shooting.
The assassination of Kirk shocked political and public circles, leading to widespread calls for enhanced security measures at political gatherings.
Kirk's funeral venue
State Farm Stadium, home of the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals, hosted the funeral and memorial service . With a seating capacity of over 63,000, expandable to more than 73,000, the venue was selected to accommodate the expected large turnout.
Overflow seating was arranged at the Desert Diamond Arena, which holds about 19,000 people. Glendale Police estimated the crowd could exceed 100,000, considering both venues.
Security arrangements
Enhanced security measures were in place, including a strict no-bag policy. The US Secret Service and Department of Homeland Security designated the event as a SEAR-1, or highest-level special event rating.
This designation allowed federal resources to support local and state authorities. Supporters arrived before sunrise to secure seats at the memorial. Many brought young children, while pictures showed long lines outside the stadium.
Turning Point USA, now led by Erika Kirk , informed attendees that security procedures might cause longer wait times. The organisation thanked the public for its patience.
Guests arriving with bags were not allowed entry and had to return their belongings to their vehicles before rejoining the line. This precaution was part of a comprehensive effort to maintain safety during the high-profile event.

Now raising two children alone, Erika shared how small reminders, such as towels left on the floor, intensify her grief. She admitted she rotates where she sleeps because she cannot enter their bedroom.
At the hospital, she insisted on viewing her husband’s body despite being advised against it. She recalled saying, “With all due respect, I want to see what they did to my husband.” The stadium was decorated with posters displaying Isaiah 6:8: “Here I am, Lord, send me!” Each seat held a red bracelet reading “We Are Charlie Kirk.”
