CBS News has dismissed reports that veteran presenter Gayle King might step away from her role on CBS Mornings when her contract ends in May 2026.

A spokesperson told USA TODAY that "there have been no discussions with Gayle about her contract that runs through May 2026."

The statement added that King is "a truly valued part of CBS and we look forward to engaging with her about the future."

Who is Gayle King?
King—who has shared a desk with Nate Burleson, Tony Dokoupil and Vladimir Duthiers—has helmed the popular morning show since she helped relaunch "CBS This Morning" alongside Charlie Rose and Erica Hill in 2012.

Earlier this year, in July, it was announced that "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" would go off the air in May 2026, with Paramount describing the move as "purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night."

"CBS Mornings" co-hosts Gayle King, Tony Dokoupil and Nate Burleson appeared together on Sept 29-2025. Former co-host Norah O'Donnell signed off from "CBS Evening News" after 12 years in January.

Then on October 27, John Dickerson announced he would be leaving the network by year’s end. Dickerson did not explain the reason for his upcoming exit.

On October 6, Paramount Skydance revealed it had acquired digital media company The Free Press. Its cofounder, Bari Weiss, was then named editor-in-chief of CBS News. Weiss, previously an op-ed editor for the Wall Street Journal, resigned from The New York Times in 2020, citing a "civil war" inside the newsroom between "the (mostly young) wokes" and "the (mostly 40+) liberals" in response to U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton's "Send In the Troops" column calling for a military response to Black Lives Matter protests.
