A post on Reddit calling out the hate and bigotry against the H-1B visa holders went viral as the post claimed that nothing is going to change even after the Donald Trump administration imposed $100,000 visa fee on H-1B. "These companies are going to continue to lobby to get what they want and nothing is going to change. This is the way our capitalist country works sorry to break it to you," the post claimed, condemning the hate the migrant workers are being subjected to in the wake of the new announcement.
The announcement of the fee came with chaos and confusion as the White House did not immediately clarify who would be affected by the new rule. Tech companies called back all their employees who are not presently in the country fearing that they might not be allowed to enter. The confusion subsided as the administration clarified that the new fee would be applicable to new H-1B applications. Confusion then made way for hatred as social media platforms were flooded with anti-migrant comments.
"You realize that it’s the AMERICAN companies that have enabled and taken advantage of this right? The hate posts that I am seeing is just that, pure hate and bigotry. H-1B visa holders have done nothing wrong. They have received an opportunity and taken it. The timing of the executive order was deliberate and malicious and it was purposefully vague to strike fear and distress," the viral Reddit post read.
"Every criticism you have against the visa should be pointed towards American employers, period. If you’re upset that American jobs aren’t going to Americans, then be upset at those companies, be upset at the free market," the post added.
The visa fee is part of a major H-1B overhaul the Trump administration is aiming at to save jobs for Americans and make H-1B a visa program that only hire extremely high-skilled people from foreign countries.
The new visa fee is not applicable to existing H-1B visa holders or any petitions submitted prior to 12:01 a.m. eastern daylight time on September 21, 2025, the White House clarified. It also does not prevent any holder of a current H-1B visa from traveling in and out of the United States, it said.
