VISAKHAPATNAM: Indian batters were delighted to be in the port city for their women's World Cup match against South Africa on Thursday. Having played on challenging surfaces in the first two clashes — in Guwahati and Colombo — captain Harmanpreet Kaur 's batters will look to make the most of batting-friendly conditions here.

Though the hosts recorded victories — a 59-run win over Sri Lanka and an 88-run victory over Pakistan — their batting was far from impressive. Coming into the World Cup, all eyes were on in-form Smriti Mandhana , who smacked consecutive centuries against Australia in the series leading up to the Worl Cup. However, she is yet to show her customary flair in India's two matches so far. Indian batters are yet to record a half-century in the tournament. Harleen Deol's 48 against Lanka remains the highest score with Smriti managing just 31 runs so far.
India were 124 for six against Lanka and 159 for five against Pakistan and it was left to Harleen, Deepti Sharma , Richa Ghosh and Sneh Rana to spare India's blushes. Smriti's runs at the top are vital for India's fortunes and there is no better place than the ACA-VDCA Stadium for the lefthanded opener to hit her stride.
While Deepti (78 runs and six wickets) has been instrumental in both the wins, young pacer Kranti Goud impressed with the new ball. Seasoned campaigner Renuka Thakur is yet to find her rhythm on return from injury, but it will be a special occasion for legspinner and local girl Shree Charani, who will be playing her first international game at home. All-rounder Amanjit Kaur, who missed the game against Pakistan due to ‘illness' is available for selection.
Jemimah Rodrigues was delighted with India finding different match winners. “We didn't have a perfect game yet we won two out of two. That means we had different players contributing to team's success. That should be worrying for the opposition,” she said on the eve of the match.
The resurgent South Africans can be tricky customers. They bounced back after being shot out for 69 by England and recorded a commanding sixwicket win over New Zealand in their second match.
Opener Tazmin Brits hit a cracking 101 to set up an easy victory against New Zealand. Sune Luus (88*) was a perfect ally as they raced home in the 41st over. In captain Laura Wolvaardt and Marizanne Kapp, the Proteas have enough firepower in their batting unit.
With the pitch likely to assist the spinners as the game progresses, leftarm spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba can be handy while Kapp and Ayabonga Khaka look to make an impression.
